Hello!

Hello!

I’ve set this up as a place to publish thoughts, observations, ideas on the foundational economy and other alternatives around regeneration in Wales. Essentially, it’s a way of getting me in the habit of writing about this field as I begin a research project looking into the foundational economy and its impact on communities, people and places. I’ll also be examining the well-being economy along the way, something intertwined with the foundational as a way of improving outcomes for everyone, while protecting what matters.

The foundational economy is a relatively new concept in spatial, social and economic regeneration. But its heritage and foundations – for want of a better expression – are embedded in the traditions of our communities, industrial, rural, coastal, urban and whatever other definition exists, and the economies that serve them. It’s the reason I’m excited by it as a way of rediscovering pride in place, in delivering prosperity through jobs and services, and in meeting the needs of a society facing so many challenges as the century wears on.

I’ll explain more about the foundational economy as a concept in another post. But for now, hello, and welcome. Croeso!
